Feldwebel Vanowen reported: " The AO on Aubenton had been up for quite a while and I spawned in as a MkII to avoid grabbing all of the good gear that I would probably waste anyway... I headed NW from the FB and sprinted away to avoid any EA for possible EI leaking up the the FB. Things were surprisingly quiet on the ground. There were some EA overhead dog-fighting with 109s but they did not care about us for the time. I was no enemy contacts and no reports were appearing on the map.
I decided to be a bit bolder and raced west ahead of the main infantry and trucks to a point NNE of the target town where I could observe some of the town and the road that leads into the town from the North. From there I could and did kill 2 AI mg nests to make the infantry able to get into town easier. I decided to creep closer to town, using the trees and humps in the ground as cover. I managed to get the attention of a AI AT nest and backed off without taking any damage from it. I maneuvered a tad East and worked down a line of trees and humps until I was in the town perimeter. From there I cleared the remaining AI MG and ATG nests on the north side of town.
At this point I have no idea how I am still alive, as I am in a cardboard armored MkII. A squirt gun could rip this thing in half, yet there is a very helpful dirth of enemy activity so far. I position my MkII overlooking the main square where I can cover the AB and the vehicle spawn and start calling for the infantry to get into town. A few guys come running in and go scurrying for the radios. Of course... the radios aren't ready yet so we have to wait for 10 minutes. After a while a Havoc goes flying slowly over town avoiding our bf109s. I manage to take a few pot shots with my mg and cannon as me circles the town very low and slow. Guess who got the kill for that Havoc... go on... guess. That's right me. Funniest thing I have seen in a while. I think he died of laughter.
By now the radios are just about ready to appear and so far, no enemies (expect for the odd EA). At this point more friendlies are getting to the town and getting into good spots. 2 EI spawn into the green 2 story huts right near me. I apparently picked a GREAT spot to park! I turned the turret and hosed down the EI and let everyone know that things are about to get hot there. The radio start to spawn as more friendly infantry and truck start to filter in and more and more EI spawn in. There are so many, that I can't shoot them all and they all KNOW that I am there being a pain the neck. I see 2 of them sprint north around a building looking to place charges on my tender person. I throw it into reverse and pull out of town while traversing the turret. I manage to barely get the 2 EI that were sprinting to get in behind me but, I am now 150 meters out of town.
I pull back up to the town a bit West to cover another angle, moving to a new spot is a good idea now that they know I am there and where I am. From this new spot I can kill EI that try to infiltrate the buildings North, and lay down over to our guys trying to get in closer. By now another MkII has taken up my old spot and a truck has brought up much needed ammo. We continue the slaughter until all the radios are capped. We then spend another 5 minutes making sure all the EI are cleared from the area.
At that point a couple of EA drop bombs on the town (out of spite) but kill nothing. I despawn to the depot with a mere 13 kills, one of which was a British heavy bomber."
